Page Tuning Test Example

Introduction

The Page Tuning Test visits one or more pages of one WebSite and uses the Performance Chart to detail which parts of the page are displaying poor download performance.

The example below enters CNN.com at http://www.cnn.com and visits several pages linked from the navigation bar located on the left hand side of the page.

Recording The Test

Select Preferences Window Before we begin, ensure eValid will be creating Detailed Log Messages.
This can be verified by clicking on Settings > Record/Play Preferences ...

Start a recording
... and selecting the radio button Detailed under the section Log Output.

Start a recording Pick a start page for your test and click on Record > Start Recording.
For this example we will use CNN's WebPage at http://www.cnn.com.

Visit links in website In our example, we will visit the links WORLD, U.S., WEATHER, BUSINESS, SPORTS, and TECHNOLOGY.

Stop the recording Click on Record > Stop Recording when you are finished making a recording.

Typical Playback

Play the recording Click Playback > Start Playback to begin the playback process.

Viewing the Performance Log Once the playback is finished, click Window > Logs > Performance Log to see the result of the playback.

Click on View Graphs A graphical representation will help better analyze the performance aspects of this WebPage based on the playback.
To view the data in graphical format, click on the Window > Graphs > Graphs(Single) > to view the graphs and ... click on the Performance to view the graph.

A Performance Graph Here is a graphical report of one playback of the above example. As you can see, each uncached page takes quite a while to load.

eValid can be used to obtain real measurements of download times running from a browser.
